Camaro Plant Tour 2011 – Trip of a Lifetime!

Posted on: July 16th, 2011

Oshawa, Canada June 10th -12th 2011

During my recent visit to the Oshawa Camaro plant I discovered a group of people like no other! This was one of the greatest trip’s of my life!

Leading up to the event I joined a Facebook group called the BBOMG. It’s a group of  builders, buyers, oshawa, meet and great.  Thanks to a man named Camaro Scotty in which I have spoken to from time to time since 2007 got me hooked up with the group.

Me and Camaro Scotty first met on another Camaro site originally but kept in touch via email or I would call him time to time to check on what’s new with the Camaro. As the months grew on and talking with this great group of huge hearted Americans & Canadians the news hit of GM having a plant tour where the Camaro was being built at.

On top of the tour, the Ontario Camaro club would be hosting their national’s right on the factory lots. This was never done before. I was convinced this would not only be an awesome trip but a trip of a lifetime. As soon as I got the dates I booked my hotel room and plane fair. I was set and now the waiting began for 6 months!

Me and Camaro Scotty!

Now the big day finally came where I got on board my flight and was headed to  Toronto, Canada. Mind you I have never met anyone I have been talking to online for months with but the BBOMG group was just the greatest bunch of big hearted people I have ever met.

A lot of people were shocked I would come all the way from California and meet a lot of the  BBOMG members and was even introduced  Jeff Bucknum, Race car driver of the #6 sunoco grand-am Camaro. I never met such a great family and friendly group that came from all over USA & Canada. They helped fellow members that were stranded, like one guy who blew his engine up in his 2010 Camaro to making donations to the local children’s foundation in the local community.

The plant tour was the best! They basically said go in as a group of 12 and take all the time you need. It took me 3 hours the first time through. That’s right I did the tour twice! This was the reason I traveled almost 3,000 miles to see.

Me Taking The Tour Once Again!!!!

I am a future owner and plan on ordering my car this 2012 model year. I met the plant workers, plant managers and even key people that were involved in specialty areas.

It was three days of car shows, factory tour and meeting just great Camaro car owners and car lovers alike. I never wanted this to end. I have earned great friendships that will last throughout my lifetime and people I would have never met if it wasn’t for social networking.

The bottom line of this trip was a must for any camaro fan & owner. If Chevy ever has this event again plan ahead book your trip in advanced. I was part of a historic event that even broke the Guinness book of world records! This trip has made me realize the time is right for a great club and that’s why I have started SF5THGEN.

I want to thank everyone from the BBOMG group, to the Ontario Camaro club, To GM for putting on such an event. But most of all for the workers taking pride in what they build and the people for making it such a great Experience. We will see if GM does it next year as I hope they do. The rumor has it this was a onetime deal. Let’s hope not!
